Open air hotel opening above Rifle

Rifle, Colo.— It kind of sounds like “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” but some investors from Rifle are planning their own version of the fairy tale.
A group of business people are planning to copy and construct an open air hotel room that has no walls or a roof – just a bed with linens, two night stands and lamps, located on a flattened area in the Flat Tops Wilderness area, near Meadow Lake at 9,550 ft above sea level.   This idea is an exact copy from a hotel located in Swizerland.
The hotel “room” will cost $210 per night.
“We think that anyone stupid enough to think that a mattress in the middle of nowhere with sheets on it constitutes a ‘room in a hotel,’ would deserve to pay $210 for it,” said one of the investors. “The only thing that is really out there is you and your partner, and perhaps a stray bear or racoon.
The nearest bathroom is about a 1/2 hour walk down the mountain so visitors are warned to give themselves plenty of time before they actually have to go.  Using the “outdoor” facilities is strictly forbidden.
Room service is offered to the guests by a personal butler who stays in a nearby cabin he prepares guest’s breakfast and dinner.
“It’s actually pretty cool,” another investor said. “It offers a view of the mountains and the stars at night. The Flat Tops becomes your hotel. Even when it rains”
But you may find something, other than your partner, snuggling with you in the middle of the night. (No extra fee)
One obvious perk for the investors… all they had to do is copy the idea from someone else, then build it on public land.
Booking for the open air hotel is already attracting a large amount of reservations for 2017, so it is advised to book sooner than later.
We just have one question — do guests sleep in the buff? Or, like the emperor, believe they have pajamas on?
