New Castle builds wall to block view of town

NEW CASTLE, Colo.  — Residents of the town of New Castle don’t want anyone to look at them. They want to protect their fortress, so they have commissioned Union Pacific Railroad to build a wall of railroad ties near Interstate 70, blocking anyone’s view.
The wall stands about 14 feet high and is about 400 feet long and it’s not yet completed.
“We’re just sick of the outside world and we don’t want them poking their nose in our business,” one town council member explained. “We just want everyone to leave us alone.”
Drivers along I-70 can no longer see the town and are not encouraged to visit. They have even gone as far as to put tape over the highway signs indicating that there is a town of New Castle.
Town hall expects to begin issuing ID tags for residents that allows them to re-enter the town after leaving.
The project is costing the town $20 million.
“But it’s worth it,” said Town Manager Bill Buckaroo. “We’ll finally get the privacy, peace and quiet we want.”
Just then, the building shook as a train screamed by on the tracks.
At its next regular council meeting, town board members will also consider a motion to secede from the union and start their own country.
